Class 6 Fractions – Answer Key

  1. Answer: (B) 3/4

    Write both with denominator 12: 3/4 = 9/12 and 2/3 = 8/12. Since 9 > 8, 3/4 is greater.

  2. Answer: (D) 3/5

The denominators are the same, so add the numerators and keep the denominator: (2 + 1)/5 = 3/5.

  3. Answer: (A) 8/12

    To change the denominator from 3 to 12 we multiply by 4. Multiply the numerator too: 2 × 4 = 8, so 2/3 = 8/12.

  4. Answer: (C) 1/2

    Write 1/3 as 2/6. Then 5/6 − 2/6 = 3/6, which simplifies to 1/2.

  5. Answer: (D) 3/4

    The highest common factor of 18 and 24 is 6. Divide both by 6: 18 ÷ 6 = 3 and 24 ÷ 6 = 4, giving 3/4.

  6. Answer: (B) 2 3/4

    Divide 11 by 4: quotient 2, remainder 3. So 11/4 = 2 whole and 3/4, written 2 3/4.

  7. Answer: (C) 17/5

Multiply the whole number by the denominator and add the numerator: 3 × 5 + 2 = 17. Keep the denominator 5, so 17/5.

  8. Answer: (A) 1/4, 1/2, 3/4

    With denominator 4: 1/4, 2/4 (which is 1/2) and 3/4. In ascending order they are 1/4, 1/2, 3/4.

  9. Answer: (D) 1/4

    Together they ate 1/4 + 2/4 = 3/4. The whole pizza is 4/4, so what is left is 4/4 − 3/4 = 1/4.

  10. Answer: (C) 4/9

A proper fraction has a numerator smaller than its denominator. Only 4/9 fits; 7/5, 5/5 and 9/4 are improper.
