Quick concept review
A decimal uses a point to separate whole numbers from parts of a whole. The first place after the point is tenths, the second is hundredths and the third is thousandths.
To add or subtract decimals, line up the decimal points so that tenths sit under tenths and hundredths under hundredths. Adding zeros at the end (6.4 = 6.40) does not change the value.
Decimals and fractions are two ways to write the same number: 0.5 = 5/10 = 1/2 and 0.25 = 25/100 = 1/4.
Curriculum note: this resource covers basic decimal skills commonly practised around Class 6. We have not mapped it to a specific chapter of the current NCERT textbook, so please check it against your own textbook and teacher's instructions.
